Chenille is a relatively new invention, dating back to around the 18th century. It is thought to have originated in France and is usually made from cotton, but can also be made from acrylic, rayon and olefin. It is formed by placing a short length of yarn, called pile, between two core yarns and then twisting the yarns together.

Chenille is a versatile upholstery fabric that can also add a luxurious look and feel to your bedroom. Even better, because it's exceptionally hard-wearing, it's perfect for decorating your bed or headboard that's subject to constant stress every day.

As with any fabric, there are specific precautions you need to follow to keep your chenille upholstered bed or headboard in tip-top shape. You should also keep in mind that different types of this material sometimes require different cleaning methods. Therefore, first of all, we strongly recommend that you check the manufacturer's instructions on the product label or instruction manual beforehand.

If fabric becomes stained, clean the affected area with a damp white cloth as soon as possible to prevent the stain from setting. Make sure not to rub the stain or over-soak the cloth. Then, dry the damp spots first with a dry white cloth, then with a hair dryer on low setting.

Avoid solvent-based and water-based cleaning products unless recommended by the manufacturer. For a thorough complete cleaning, why not hire a professional upholstery cleaner every few years?
